why am i not able to boot through a bootable pendrive or a dvd?

Question by avin: why am i not able to boot through a bootable pendrive or a dvd?
i run windows 8 and i had a little trouble with an ubuntu installation on a separate partition…so i used the REFRESH pc option…i have my windows 8 perfectly but i am unable to install any other operating system now…im a college student and i require ubuntu as well as windows…my laptop also has UEFI and im unaware of the way it works…

i tried manually booting through an usb but i received the message”Boot device failed”…can somebody help me with this?

boot from usb frequently has to be enabled in the BIOS … this is to prevent unauthorized stranger with usb device from stealing your data

it could be that UEFI is blocking the install of Ubuntu, I no windows 8 is very dual boot unfriendly. can you set up a vm in windows 8 and run it that way? I know it’s probably not an ideal solution but may get you by for now

UEFI is not friendly to other OSes. Check the instructions in this link.
    Hope this helps
