Corsair recommends 2x4gb Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600. Model CMP8GX3M2A1600C8. It is also on the compatible chart at the ASUS website. But there are many other brands that will work fine. Just do plenty of research for what you are looking for as far as size, speed and price go.

dont get the 4100… either get the 8150 or an athalon 4 core…the 4100 really drags compared to the athalons… and you will fine with the 8gb dimms

Just got this board and will be upgrading my (Win7-64 bit) system over the weekend.
I’m keeping my previous HDDs and Graphics board.
I also bought and intend to install these components into it:

    – AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Quad-Core
    – G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (16GB @ 2x8GB)

My concern is the G.skill 8GB DIMMs.
Has any one tried these or any other 8GB DIMMs in this board?

I think you should be fine. When I installed this motherboard I backed everything important up to my other drive and ran a fresh install of windows 7. I just did this to avoid conflicts with older drives and for a fresh fast run.

I’m gonna be using this board to build a pc next week, all the parts are gonna be new apart from the harddrive. Is it safe to use a harddrive which has windows installed on it already for the first boot up? or will it fail because of the massive amounts of hardware changes?

@PCMau5: Yes, it has. You have to put the cards in the first and the third PCIE Slot (the green colored ones). But you have to don’t worry about it, ’cause a 6990 doesn’t use all the bandwith gived from a 8x PCIE.
It’s even better to put the cards in that slot because you have a better airflow for the first card.
