Paul’s Budget PC Build Part 3 – The Asus UEFI

It was time for my friend Paul to get a new pc which he desperately needed. Altogether the cost was about 0 at the time from Newegg.com including windows 7. This is Part 3 where I go through a little of the Asus UEFI equipped on the motherboard. System Specs are: Cooler Master Centurion 5 Mid Tower Case AMD FX-4100 @4.6Ghz Zalman CNPS9500 CPU Cooler ASUS M5A97 AM3+ Motherboard Mushkin Radioactive 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz 7-9-8-24 HIS Radeon HD6790 1GB @925/1100Mhz Antec Earthwatts 650w Power Supply

Interesting….never had too much trouble with hdd’s, even old ones cause if they are SATA then they should be backwards compatible. Won’t even let you format them at windows setup? hhhmmmm

This board will overclock moderately. I achieved the expected simple overclock with the FX-4100. It would not be the board I would recommend for Extreme overclocking but on a budget… pretty good. As for the Athlon x4 635, I had an Athlon x4 640 overclocked to 3.7Ghz on a cheaper board so you should do well with M5A97. Maybe 3.5Ghz.

Quick question. Was the Asus M5A97 compatible with the fx 4100 out of the box? Or did you need to flash the bios? I’m getting the same board and I am hopeing I don’t need to flash it. Thanks in advanced!

The Fx 4100 is a 3.6 Ghz Quad core, Using the turbo will just higher it up to 3.8 Ghz or even higher with the right heat sink.

I’m getting this motherboard and was wondering if it’s ok to build the computer even though I don’t have a GPU yet. I’ll have the motherboard, ram, I’m using a 8120 fx cpu, the case, psu, and cpu cooler.

SO if u turn on Turbo-core technology it make it like a dual core with higher clock speeds??

Cool i was wondering where the option to unlock cores was.I guess most asus motherboard can unlock cores but just doesn’t all advertise it.
